U of Iowa organizes “Mini-March” and Rally to Fundraise for Delegation
The University of Iowa FMLA helped organize a Mini-March and Rally for Women's Lives on Thursday, April 1, 2004. The march stepped off from the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City and ended with a rally on the University of Iowa campus. Over 50 attendees watched as the Radical Cheerleaders kicked off the rally. Following their performance, representatives from FMLA and other progressive groups spoke via bullhorn about reproductive health issues and the importance of marching on April 25.
FMLA members also sold Feminist Majority t-shirts and bus tickets to Washington, DC. The rally concluded with a lottery drawing to help subsidize students attending the March for Women's Lives. Press coverage included a live broadcast on KRUI Campus Radio, and an article in the university newspaper.
Sponsors of the Mini-March and Rally were the University of Iowa FMLA, Emma Goldman Clinic, Iowa City NOW, NARAL Pro-Choice America in Iowa, Choice USA, Iowa ISO, Campus Greens, and more. These groups have formed a coalition, “Iowans Marching for Women's Lives,” to organize for the March in DC.
