Home of the Historic National Woman's Party
We are a women's history museum with unparalleled archives and a collection of fine art and artifacts from the women's suffrage and equal rights movements. Our docent-led Museum tours tell the inspiring and still unfinished story of women's quest for full citizenship. We are the historic headquarters of the National Woman's Party since 1929. The NWP, established in the final years of the suffrage movement, was, following the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the main women's rights organization in the U.S. until the 1960s. In the post-suffrage era, the primary focus of the NWP was the passage and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, authored by NWP founder, Alice Paul, in 1923. We are one of the oldest houses on Capitol Hill with a fascinating history as part of Washington's political and social scene for over 200 years. We are a National Historic Landmark, recognized by the Secretary of the Interior in 1974 for its significance to the history of the United States. The House, along with the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Star Spangled Banner, was one of the four nationally significant preservation projects named by Congress in the legislation that established the "Save America's Treasures" program.

Media Projects, Inc. has been making documentary films and educational videos for over 25 years. Founded by filmmakers, Allen Mondell and Cynthia Salzman Mondell, MPI specializes in exploring topics of social concern. Our films have won numerous national awards and have been selected for prestigious screenings in the United States and abroad. Some have received specialized theatrical distribution and have aired on PBS and national cable networks. The Spirit of Women - Will broadcast nationwide March 1st on Independent Lens with a name change as Sisters of '77 Academy Award Winning Actress Susan Sarandon will introduce it. On an historic weekend in November 1977, 20,000 women and men attended the first federally funded National Women's Conference in Houston, Texas, where they caucused, argued and finally hammered out resolutions that revolutionized the women's movement.
