Greenpeace is truly only as strong as our people, and the Employee Relations Specialist will be intimately involved supporting our goal of building a strong, diverse, collaborative team at Greenpeace. This position provides friendly and professional human resources service to employees and managers across the US to ensure consistent application of policies and effective management of the organization's human resources. The Employee Relations Specialist advises and supports staff and managers on policy questions, investigations, and handling of performance or behavior issues. This position also oversees the annual performance review process and objective-setting, including training staff and managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Answer staff questions regarding Greenpeace?s HR policies and procedures - Advise and coach employees and managers regarding concerns about staff performance and behavior, including developing and tracking follow-up or training plans - Help employees, supervisors, and department heads to settle work-related conflicts through advice and recommendation - Provide advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy, and employment laws - Investigate problems, such as: working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances. According to circumstances, provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals.
- Develop employee relations and investigations skills across the HR team and engage other members of the HR team in these processes - Develop and maintain policies, procedural guidelines, and tracking systems for progressive discipline processes - Coordinate regularly with in-house legal counsel on HR policies and procedures - Manage performance evaluation process, including 90-day reviews, annual 360 reviews, and annual objective setting check-ins, including training and coaching managers - Manage exit process including exit interviews - Recommend policy changes to the Director of Human Resources - Provide regular feedback to the Senior Management Team and Executive Director on trends

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills and Attributes:

- Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements - Strong interpersonal skills including sensitive and effective conflict resolution - Ability to communicate complex and detailed policies, programs, and benefits to the staff and general public - Friendly, responsive, and service-oriented - Demonstrable commitment to equity and the value of a diverse and inclusive workplace - Familiarity with the different job functions within an advocacy organization a plus - Commitment to Greenpeace?s mission - Approximately 5 years in an HR Manager, Employee Relations or HR Generalist role or equivalent experience.

Proven ability

- Demonstrate considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships - Build strong relationships and trust with staff and managers across cultural difference and at various levels in the organization - Multitask and remain organized in a fast paced, high volume environment while meeting multiple deadlines - Research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action - Handle employee relations within a complex, mutli-state organization - Manage high-risk tasks successfully - Work independently and handle confidential information
