Feminist Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Professor

Description: The Department of Women's and Gender Studies at the University of South Florida invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Women's Health, with a research and/or teaching focus on China, transnational feminisms, or global intersectionalities. The position will begin August 2013 at a salary of $65.7K. Successful applicants must have a PhD with a documented emphasis, cognate, or expertise in feminist and/or queer perspectives. The degree must be conferred by appointment start date. The degree may be in Women's, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies, a health-related field, or in a discipline that complements the disciplines already represented in WGS: English, Sociology, Performance Studies, History, and Mass Communication. We welcome applicants from across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, public and community health, and health sciences.

We seek a dynamic individual with an outstanding record of, or potential for, college teaching in face-to-face and/or online classrooms. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching undergraduate courses in the WGS core curriculum and elective courses including Politics of Women's Health, Human Sexual Behavior, or Women, Environment, and Gender. At the graduate level, the successful candidate will be a vital member of the WGS MA program, teaching graduate classes in women's health, transnationalism, and courses in areas of specialty, as well as directing MA theses.

We seek a feminist scholar with a record of, or potential for, outstanding research and scholarship in women's health, especially related to China, global health issues, disparities, and transnational flows. Evidence of successful grant applications, external and internal funding, and interdisciplinary work is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to develop relationships with the USF Confucius Institute, USF World, and USF Health.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Has completed Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, and/or Sexuality Studies, a health-related field, or in a discipline that complements the disciplines already represented in WGS: English, Sociology, Performance Studies, History, and Mass Communication. Applicants welcome from across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, public and community health, and health sciences.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):
In addition to research and scholarship in women's health and global health issues, the successful candidate will have a record of effective teaching online and/or face to face, expertise in China, and an established record of publication and interdisciplinary work.
