The Associate Director of Development, major gifts, works under the direction of the Director of Development to develop and implement the major gifts program. S/he also oversees general development department activities as described below.
Responsibilities:
-Manages, cultivates and solicits a defined regional major donor portfolio, with an expected range of 60 to 75 donor meetings per year. Activities pertaining to the portfolio include:
--> Cultivation and solicitation meetings
--> Personalized correspondence
--> Regular and timely communication that includes phone calls, emails and events
-Creates targeted donor proposals in coordination with other members of the Development Department and other departments when necessary.
-Assists in building major donor solicitation and acknowledgement strategies for the President, the Director of Development, members of the Boards of Directors, and other senior staff members, as appropriate.
-Partner with the Director of Development to implement donor recognition and cultivation programs.
-Works with board members to schedule fundraising meetings and events, send solicitation emails and make thank you calls in conjunction with the Director of Development.
- Strategically oversee trip management, current and lapsed donor outreach (phone calls, letters, emails, etc.), and the facilitation of donor requests for materials and information.
-Oversees key fundraising events such as receptions and house parties.
-Partner with the Director of Development to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for events.
-Develops and implements year-round donor cultivation opportunities, including work with the Leadership Councils.
-Contribute to the fundraising programs strategic planning process and annual plan preparation.
-Provides guidance to Major Gifts Associate and Special Events Manager in managing portfolios and implementing strategies.
-Participates in Program Team and Scheduling Team meetings.
-Participates in weekly check-ins and regular strategy meetings.
-Recruits, hires, trains and supervises the Major Gifts and Special Events staff members, including interns.
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-College degree required;
-Minimum four years of supervisory experience required;
-Six+ years of relevant major gifts experience;
-Expertise in major gifts work;
-Experience in planning and executing fundraising events;
-Experience soliciting and closing five figure gifts;
-Experience working with volunteer leadership;
-Blackbaud or fundraising database experience preferred;
-Strong written and verbal communication skills required;
-Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce and sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural differences is required.
-Clear understanding of, and commitment to, NARAL's mission and goals.
