Job Title: Major Gifts Manager
Organization: Center for Reproductive Rights
Region: East Coast
Description: The Center for Reproductive Rights, a global human rights organization with expertise in constitutional and international law, seeks a dynamic, ambitious and data-driven Major Gifts Manager to be based in its New York City headquarters. The Manager will report to the Director of Individual Giving and join a development team of 10 individuals as a crucial part of an innovative and cutting-edge organization committed to promoting the equality, reproductive health, and self-determination of women throughout the world. The Center has launched an aggressive and exciting strategic plan to expand its impact worldwide over the next five years, and is looking for an ambitious fundraising professional to take a leading role in the growth and success of the organization?s development efforts.

The new Manager will be joining the Center at an exciting time for the institution and at a critical time for the nation, in which the Center is well-poised to defend against the current challenges in the U.S. and go on the offense to change the discourse and policy landscape to protect women?s dignity, equality, health, and autonomy.

ORGANIZATION, LEADERSHIP, AND GOVERNANCE Founded in 1992, the Center for Reproductive Rights is a non-profit organization that promotes women?s equality worldwide by securing reproductive rights in constitutional and international human rights law. Its mission is straightforward and ambitious: to advance reproductive health and rights as a fundamental right that all governments are legally obligated to protect, respect and fulfill. The Center is unmatched as a reproductive rights organization in its expertise on U.S. constitutional law, comparative law, and international human rights law.

The Center works across the globe on issues including access to life-saving obstetrics care, contraception, abortion services, and comprehensive sexuality information, as well as the prevention of forced sterilization and FGM. It has brought groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. committees, and regional human rights bodies, and has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in over 50 countries.

The Center is governed by a 20-person Board of Directors and employs more than 100 professionals from Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Kenya, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Slovakia, Sweden and the U.S.

In addition to a headquarters in New York City, the Center has offices in: Washington D.C.; Bogota?, Colombia; Kathmandu, Nepal; Nairobi, Kenya; and Geneva, Switzerland. Its annual budget of more than $15 million is raised primarily from foundations and individuals.

Responsibilities:

-Develop and manage a portfolio of 150-200 prospects capable of making gifts of at least $5,000. Emphasis will be on securing a significant number of new gifts and gift upgrades through a strategic and aggressive approach to personal cultivation and solicitation.
-Together with the Director of Individual Giving and the Center?s direct mail consultants, develop multi-channel communications and other strategies for the Center?s mid-level donors ($500-4,999), achieving aggressive targets for an increase in number of donors, annual gift upgrades, and overall donor engagement and developing the program as an effective pipeline to the major gifts program.
-Collaborate with the Development team on the successful planning and execution of the Center?s annual gala and other special events, including soliciting corporate support for the event and providing practical support for the recruitment and management of the event host committee and honorees.
-Provide support to the Director of Individual Giving and the Director of Development in creating briefings, proposal materials, and other communications for major donors.
-Where appropriate, work with donor volunteers on local hosted events and special initiatives.
-Build relationships with the Center?s legal staff, communications staff, and others to acquire the information needed to solicit gifts and build donor relationships effectively.
-Work as part of the overall development team to develop and execute strategies to achieve annual departmental goals as well as the goals of the Center?s five-year strategic plan and fundraising campaign.
-Assist in team goal setting and expense management.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate would have the following professional and personal characteristics:

-5-7 years experience working in a strategic, front-line annual and/or major gifts fundraising position.
-A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high net-worth individuals in a very fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
-Ability to nimbly navigate the demands of a data-driven direct response program while also providing support to a highly-personalized and thoughtful major gifts effort through excellent analytical, organizational and relationship skills.
-Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate the mission, goals, and needs of an organization to donors, increasing donor loyalty and engagement.
-Principled, ethical, and professional and committed to exceptional work quality and standards.
-A collaborative style and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
-Highly organized, creative, pro-active, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize with superior time management and troubleshooting skills.
-Ability to meet short deadlines and thrive within a very fast-paced, professionally rigorous environment.
-Excellent verbal & written communication skills and demonstrated ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, accurately and concisely.
-Experience with volunteer management an advantage.
-A Bachelor's degree is required.
-Ability to travel required.
-Commitment to the Center?s mission, purpose, and values. Experience need not be in reproductive rights specifically.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
