Cult of Power
by
Martha Burk

In 2003, Martha Burk, Chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, led a much-publicized protest against the all-male Augusta National Golf Club and its gender-exclusionary membership policy. The point she so effectively made was that private male clubs go to the heart of women's struggle to achieve an equal footing in the business world. After all, it's not just golf that goes on in Augusta: It's also the site of top-level corporate wheeling and dealing. In Cult of Power, Burk analyzes how male power elites cleverly manage to perpetuate themselves - and thus effectively keep women and minorities locked out of the "old boys" clubs.
