Iran Awakening: A Memoir of Revolution and Hope
by
Shirin Ebadi

This book is the memoir of Shirin Ebadi who, in 2003, became the first Muslim woman and the first Iranian to be honored with a Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy of human rights. This is one accomplishment among many. After being demoted from the position of a judge to that of a law clerk, Dr. Ebadi responded by earning a degree to practice law. As a lawyer, she accepted politically charged cases representing women and children that most lawyers were too afraid to accept. The book explores her untraditional upbringing, her marriage, her daughters, her religious faith, and her struggles to legally battle social injustices.
