2006-2007 Feminist Calendar

Feminism is the policy, practice or advocacy of political, economic, and social equality for women.

As feminists we must not just talk about change, we must try to create it.

Planning events and actions on the feminist awareness days below is a great way to be a part of the national movement to end gender inequality, racism, sexism, and healthcare disparities.

Here are some ideas of simple activities you can do on your campus, no matter how large or small the group:

* Screen a relevant movie! Show a mainstream film that brings up feminist issues or use an FMF movie. FMF has movies that you can use such as "the global majority...again" which highlights issues facing women and families worldwide. Email the FMF Campus Team for more information.

* Plan a "Did You Know" Campaign on any subject and flier the campus with facts and information about the specific issue. For example focus on Emergency Contraception and flier the campus with slogans such as "Did you know EC can be taken up to 120 hours after unprotected sex? You can get EC at (insert clinic information)"

* Create a powerful visual. Organize a clothesline project, handprint project or an artistic statement of global solidarity.

* Hold a discussion or informational meeting on topics relevant to your campus such as violence against women education, EC information, or fair wages for campus sub-contracted labor.

* Educate your campus about feminism! Host a pay equity bake sale, an F-Word Forum, or a Faces of Feminism Campaign.

*Bring a speaker to campus to highlight the issues important to your group! Check out Soapboxinc.com for suggestions or find someone in your campus or in your community.
