Campus Directors:

duVergne Gaines, J.D. - Campus Director

duVergne Gaines graduated with a J.D. from Loyola Law School. As a law student, Gaines received recognition for excellence in federal and state constitutional law; she was also a member of the Entertainment Law Review. Gaines has helped direct FMF's campus-based campaigns to defeat anti-abortion ballot measures in California, Colorado, Mississippi, North Dakota, and South Dakota. She also serves as the legal coordinator for the National Clinic Access Project. Prior to law school, Gaines co-directed the FMF's benefit concert series Rock for Choice for seven years and gained extensive national experience as a campus field organizer for clinic defense and the Iowa ERA Campaign.

East Coast Organizers:

Miranda Peterson

Miranda graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies. While at UCLA, Miranda was a leader of the student group Bruin Feminists for Equality, where she coordinated with the Feminist Majority Foundation on a number of their campus campaigns. After graduation, Miranda worked for the Feminist Majority on a successful independent expenditure campaign to re-elect Senator Barbara Boxer in California, which focused primarily the threats to women’s reproductive rights. For the last year she has worked for a human rights law firm on issues of sexual violence in the United States military.

Kari Ross

Kari Ross is the Assistant to the President at the Feminist Majority Foundation and a National Campus Organizer. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Women's Studies with College Honors from Salem College located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At Salem, she founded the Salem College Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, and was of the first students to ever graduate with a major in Women's Studies. Previously, she worked at the Cherry Hill Women's Center, a first and second trimester abortion facility in New Jersey, as a phone counselor, funding coordinator, and bookkeeper. She has worked with FMF fighting Amendment 6 in Florida in 2012, Initiative 26 in Mississippi in 2011, and defending Charlotte, North Carolina clinics from anti-choice extremist group Operation Rescue/Operation Save America as an FMF intern in 2010.

Francesca Witcher

Francesca graduated from Miami University in 2010 with a B.A. in Journalism, Black World Studies, with a minor in Political Science. She worked as an Ambassador for the Miami University Women's Center. While there she was a writer and editor of the semester newsletter titled The Femellectual, planned and coordinated the annual Women of Color Celebration, and organized events around issues concerning domestic violence, body image, and women of color on Miami's campus. In addition, she served in other campus activist organizations such as the Miami University's National Association for the Advancement of Color People (NAACP) as the Membership Chair, where she played an active role in organizing and recruiting students for membership with the chapter.

West Coast Organizers:

Adriana Cortes

Adriana Cortes Luna was born in Watsonville California and is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants from the states of Jalisco (home of Mariachi) and Michoacan, Mexico. Adriana grew up in Anaheim and studied Political Science at California State University, Fullerton. On campus Adriana was the Community Service Chair of CSUF's Third Wave Feminist Organization, where she co-developed a educational feminist workshop and trained more than 300 junior high and high school students about the history of women's rights, violence against women in the media and dispelling stereotypes regarding feminism. In 2008 Adriana became a United States Student Association (USSA) Grass Roots Organizing Weekend trainer and traveled across the country training students from diverse backgrounds on running strategic, long term, direct action campaigns. Adriana then joined the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and organized workers with the United Healthcare Workers (UHW) in Baldwin Park, California. In 2011 Adriana became the Training Director for the USSA where she planned the national trainings and directed the 64th National Student Congress and 43rd Grassroots Legislative Conference. Adriana was honored with receiving California State University, Fullerton?s Martin Luther King Scholarship and California State University, Fullerton's Educational Opportunity Program Scholarship.

Brooke Hofhenke

Brooke graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in Feminist Studies and Applied Psychology. While at UCSB, she organized its first Reproductive Justice Awareness week and helped found the Choices affiliate End Fake Clinics. With her help, the group successfully worked with UCSB's Associated Students to pass a historic bill regulating so-called Crisis Pregnancy Center advertisements on campus. UCSB is the largest public university in California to pass a Truth in Advertising measure. On the weekends Brooke is a volunteer clinic escort for LA for Choice, a FMF Adopt-A-Clinic Campaign partner serving Los Angeles area abortion clinics targeted by anti-abortion protesters.
