Get Out HER Vote 2008
Our Get Out Her Vote 2008 Campaign (GOHV ) is a student voter education and registration initiative aimed at significantly increasing registration and voting by young women. With our nation at war, the right to abortion and birth control in jeopardy, global warming increasing, and attacks on affirmative action, it is time for young feminists across the country to register themselves and others, and then vote during the 2008 Presidential Elections!
As part of our multi-issue feminist organizing, every other year we provide training and materials for student voter registration and mobilization drives. These trainings are important because students are able to identify barriers that impede voter participation among college students and help to thwart those efforts. In 2006 the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) reported that about 2 million more young people voted in 2006 than in the last midterm election, making for an increase of 24 percent.

Birth Control Access and
Emergency Contraception Campaign
The price of birth control on college campuses and many clinics serving low-income women has increased dramatically! At some campuses and clinics, it has doubled, at others, it has tripled, and at some, it has gone up five times, from $10 to $50 a month. The increase in price resulted when the Federal Deficit Reduction Action for 2005 went into effect this spring. Under provisions of the Act, college health centers lost their substantial discounts on birth control supplies.
Here are 4 easy things you can do on your campus:
- Take action: Sign a Petition demanding that Congress restore affordable birth control for college campuses and clinics!
- Team up with your campus health center or local women's clinic.
- Table in high visibility areas or during the back to school fairs about EC and where to get it.
- Gather members of your groups together to storm the dorms, the student union, sororities, etc. with petitions on the birth control price hikes, fliers on EC and where to get EC before you need it.

Campaign to Expose Fake Clinics
They advertise as so-called “Crisis Pregnancy Centers” or “Pregnancy Resource Centers” on your campus or in your community. They pose as legitimate health centers and offer “free” pregnancy tests. In reality, most crisis pregnancy centers (CPC's) are not medical facilities at all. Learn more about these fake clinics and how you can bring the Feminist Majority Foundation's Campaign to Expose Fake Clinics to your campus. Stop the deception! |

Global Women's and Reproductive Rights Campaign
Now more than ever, it is vital to speak out for global women's rights and human rights issues. Educate your campus on what they can do to change current U.S. international family planning policies (the Global Gag Rule and under funding international family planning) and the links among family planning and sweatshops, poverty, and violence against women around the world.
- Plan events to educate your campus about Global Reproductive Rights to draw the connections between decreased family planning funding and how this implicates itself for the lives of women world wide . Screen and discuss FMF's own "The Global Majority...Again" DVD.
- Organize with our Afghan Women's Health Campaign. One in six Afghan women will die from complications during pregnancy or childbirth. You can help Afghan women and girls (indeed, all too many very young girls -- 11, 12, or 13 years old -- will become pregnant) with as little as $3,000. Learn more or contact your Campus Organizer to form a fundraising action team today.
- Host a green/pink party! You don't have to be an expert on these issues in order to host a party -- all it takes is a desire to make a difference! When you sign up to host a Green-Pink Party, we will send you a FREE Green-Pink Party Kit that includes everything you'll need to organize a fun and successful event: a step-by-step instructional guide, invitations, mission statement cards, fact sheets, two short DVDs, green & pink condoms, and more! Sign up here!

Never Go Back
Now is the time to renew our campus Never Go Back Campaign to warn of the disaster another President Bush Supreme Court appointment would bring and bolster the Senate's will to filibuster any anti-women's rights nominee. This spring the Supreme Court upheld the federal abortion procedure ban, despite the fact that it lacked an exception to protect women's health. The Court's decision in Gonzales v Carhart is an invitation to the states and Congress to pass even more restrictive laws. Louisiana just passed a ban on the same abortion procedure as the federal law, but it increased the criminal penalties for doctors to a possible 10 years in prison (the federal ban carries a maximum two-year sentence).

Sweat Shop Action Campaign
Become a Sweat-Free Campus! The production of college apparel is a huge industry, with students, alumni, and others spending millions of dollars each year to wear university colors. Meet with college and university officials to request that all college athletic wear and apparel be purchased from companies that do not use sweatshop labor. Student groups can also gather petition signatures from students and launch a public awareness campaign on campus to educate on the importance of becoming a sweat-free campus. |
